There’s nothing better than fall in New England. From the spectacular foliage to local Halloween festivities, to opportunities for apple-picking and sampling cider donuts, we personally believe there’s no better place to be during the crisp autumn months. Unfortunately, many fall events and traditions involve enjoying sticky candy or overly sugary baked goods…yikes! However, there are ways to make healthy choices while still having fun this fall season. One of our local favorites is the Wilmington Farmers’ Market.
In addition to supporting your local farmers and vendors, a trip to the farmers’ market will most likely earn you a big “thank you” from your teeth! Locally grown produce and fruits are loaded with vitamins and minerals essential for a healthy smile. You can also usually find homemade breads and other products that are made with healthier ingredients than those found in a supermarket, which means they’re generally better for you. Stock up on foods such as cheese, leafy greens, or our personal favorites this time of year: apples! That’s right, the star of your favorite fall pie is great for your teeth on its own!
Another benefit of paying the Wilmington Farmers’ Market a visit? Local produce are super-fresh and often taste better than their supermarket counterparts. If you don’t think you like kale or carrots, give a locally grown variety a try. You may be surprised that you actually enjoy it! The Wilmington Farmers’ Market pops up every Sunday from 10am to 1pm on the Swain Green of the Wilmington Common through October 29th. It’s a great way to find healthier foods, participate in your community, and have some fall fun—there’s often entertainment and activities onsite!
